The Equine and Farm sections of Putlands Veterinary Surgery are run by a team of four vets: Eryl Davies, Tony Warr, Lara Coates and Polly Wise.
We have a broad area of experience between us. Tony's main area of interest is competitive horses (including dressage, eventing and racing) whilst Eryl enjoys a mixture of horse work (particularly brood mares, pleasure riding horses and harness racing) and farm work (dairy cow, beef production and small holdings). Both Lara and Polly are young and enthusiastic, prepared to tackle any species that is brought to their attention.
We have facilities for hospitalising large animals (see virtual tour) which becomes necessary from time to time. For example: pre-operatively, to help the horse settle in and post-operatively if a horse needs an intravenous drip, which we can administer and monitor.
Our two large animal nurses Louise and Helen help look after in-patients and spend a lot of time helping the vets with scanning, X-rays and general anaesthetics. They will provide the extra T.L.C. which is often required for a speedy recovery.
Most of the vets' time is spent visiting stables and farms, so if you need a call out please ring us early in the morning. Between 8.00 and 8.30 am is an ideal time, and you can always ring for free advice should you need it.
We share out out-of-hours work with another local practice in Tunbridge Wells, running a "one week on, one week off " system. This has helped reduce stress levels tremendously and means that we can spend more time with our families and follow our individual interests (Eryl plays golf and squash, Tony competes at advanced level dressage/eventing, Lara is training for half marathon and Polly plays lacrosse).
Please feel free to call us at the surgery early morning (8 to 8.30am) if we can be of any assistance.
