BLUE TONGUE VACCINATION *** LATEST NEWS***
Wednesday, April 23 2008
We still have no release date but the protocol for vaccinating is as follows:-
Sheep: 1ml dose given subcutaneously. Full immunity will be achieved after 3 weeks.
Cattle: 1ml dose given subcutaneously with a second injection 3 weeks later. Full immunity will be achieved after a further 3 weeks.
Goats, Alpacas and Llamas: Follow cattle regime above.
Minimum age for vaccination in all species is 4 weeks. There is a nil milk and meat withdrawal period.
No other vaccine or medicinal product may be used within a fortnight of vaccination.
It is advisable to change needles regularly when doing large numbers of animals because there is a risk of transmitting Blue Tongue Disease from one to another via the needle.
There are 2 sizes of bottles: 50ml and 20ml.
Once opened the bottles have to be used up within 8 hours.
20ml bottle: £19.91 plus VAT.
50ml bottle: £34.13 plus VAT.
Individual doses (drawn up ready for you to use) will be available at £1.76 including VAT. However these will be drawn up on specific days only when there is sufficient call for us to open a new vial.
Should you wish us to administer the vaccine we are happy for you to bring small numbers of animals to the surgery or alternatively we can visit you to carry out the vaccination procedure (normal practice rates will apply).
It is quite likely that we will have to supply our wholesaler with your farm’s holding number which starts 20/xxx/ xxx for Kent, 41/xxx/xxx for Sussex and 27/xxx/xxx for the outskirts of London. Please could you have this ready when we telephone you to confirm your order.
Thank you for your co-operation and continued support in this matter.
