Blue Tongue. From January 8th we will be able to blood test sheep (and cattle) for Blue Tongue Virus. This means that during the 'vector free period' we can move animals out of the South East Restriction Zone to sales in the rest of the country or for grazing purposes. Please speak to one of our vets for details.
Vaccination. Sheep previously not vaccinated against the clostridial diseases should be given two injections, 4-6 weeks apart in the autumn and a further 'booster' injection 3-4 weeks before lambing each year. Most bought-in tegs will not have been vaccinated at all, so it would be advisable to start them on a vaccination programme now, e.g. Heptavac P. 'Plus'. This vaccine has an improved pasteurella pneumonia component to it and we are now fully stocked for the season.
Sheep scab. There has been a dramatic rise in the number of sheep scab outbreaks and it is our duty to be vigilant against this most unpleasant disease. If you are at all concerned that your sheep may have contracted scab we can suggest a suitable treatment for your flock, in the form of a long acting injection which worms the sheep at the same time.
